Behind the Scenes: Ushers get makeup ready for June 15 Fashion Show

Inspired by Jeremy Scott: Francisco Rodriguez, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Fashion Design

Q: Who is your role model?
A: My role models would have to be my parents and my older sister.

Q: What do you hope to achieve after graduation?
A: After graduation I plan on looking for a job in my field and travel to New York or out of the states to explore more of the fashion industry.

Q: If you had the opportunity to work with any designer, who would it be and why?
A: The designer would be Jeremy Scott. I feel like his designs represent me as a designer with his dark humor style, funky prints, and pop culture references.

I am inspired by personal time to myself, whether I am taking a walk around town or taking a long shower while day dreaming. Music would be another important inspiration. I listen to the lyrics and beats to imagine what each character or my idea of that character is wearing in that moment. The flow of the music can determine the design for a garment.

I was raised in the countryside of Fresno, California and grew up having a farm lifestyle. I was never one to go out shopping. I rarely buy clothes for myself. I like to think of myself only creating clothes for other people to wear. I never really cared how I dressed every day.

Fashion Design Student from Okinawa, Japan: Rie Yamamoto, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Fashion Design

Rie Yamamoto is originally from Okinawa, Japan where she went to a private school and had the privilege to interact with international students. Rei decided that she wanted to be a Fashion Designer while she was in high school in Japan. She was influenced by her mother and especially by her grandmother who sew vintage kimonos for a living.

Q: Who is your role model?
A: My mom who is trendy, energetic, and young in spirit.

Q: What do you hope to achieve after graduation?
A: I want to support well known fashion companies, and stay in the United States to build a career.

Q: If you had the opportunity to work with any designer, who would it be and why?
A: Vivian Westwood because her designs are very similar to mine and I like how she drapes clothes on a person.

Q & A with Christopher Maracha, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Fashion Design

Q: Who is your role model?
A: Lady Gaga, she’s an artist who is not afraid to take risks and goes against the grain.

Q: What do you hope to achieve after graduation?
A: After graduation I see myself illustrating and developing inspirational concepts for design houses.

Q: If you had the opportunity to work with any designer, who would it be and why?
A: I would love to work with Nicola Formicetti or Stephane Rolland. Nicola because of his modern take on menswear, and Stephane because of his dramatic silhouettes and flowing ease in his gowns.

"My inspiration usually comes from music and art. I like to re imagine what music or a work of art would be if it were to be translated physically onto a dress form and expanded into a collection."

Meet Lauren Barisic: Bachelor of Fine Arts, Fashion Design

"Inspiration for my collection was found within context as much as material references. The movie Charade, starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, was a significant source, in that the word “charade” can be interpreted with meanings beyond the well know game factor.

It is the unknown, uncertainty, curiosity, and anticipation that surround the illusive mystery. Yet, the concept stands with a connotation of excitement. Such is the American spirit. I found a deepened camaraderie with the life and legacy of President Theodore Roosevelt, and his infamous daughter, Alice. The materials used reiterate this lifestyle, ever so contrasting, yet united as a whole.

My aesthetic embodies the entire woman. It is the attitude she portrays that others wish to emulate, as much as her style–that American spunk and confidence. Her clothing is merely an extension of who she is–she is the “American Charade."

"I am originally from Fresno, California where I learned how to sew at the age of eight. I am the eldest of four siblings. My family is my source of inspiration because of their strong creative bond. When I was walking around New York City I saw two dresses which were the exact replica of the dress I had designed. That’s when I knew she wanted to be a fashion designer."

Q: Who is your role model?
A: My grandma is my source for inspiration. We are very close and have the same direction as far as motivation.

Q: What do you hope to achieve after graduation?
A: I want to have my own firm. A lifestyle brand for women’s wear.

Q: If you had the opportunity to work with any designer, who would it be and why?
A: It would be Ralph Lauren because the aesthetic embodies clothing for the whole woman; where she has been, where she going, and her influences.
