Fashion Exhibition of AISF-CA "Eccentric/Emerging/Eclectic"

The Student Fashion Exhibition took place at The Art Institute of California- San Francisco Gallery on February 20th, 2014. Academic Director of Fashion Geetika Gupta and Fashion Show Production Instructor Michael Rosen hosted the event. The purpose of the show was to view the designers who showcased their collections at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at New York earlier this month. The designers included Lauren Barisic who is majoring in Fine Arts as a Fashion Designer, Christopher Maracha and Rie Yamamoto (recent graduates majored in Bachelor of Fine Arts, Fashion Design).
When all of the guests (facility, writers, students, etc.) arrived and got settled down, Michael introduced  the theme of “Emerging/Established/Eclectic” and spoke about what he would be showcasing that evening. A few minutes later, the music changed and the lights got dimmer because the Fashion Show Production and In-House Promotion students invited the student designers into the venue and those designers formed a collaborative group called “N/A.” “N/A” included Francisco Rodriguez, Tayler Melhart, Jesus Romero, and Daniela Ramirez (all of the students are majoring in Fine Arts, Fashion Design.
Those students along with fourteen other Fashion Designers, will be a part of 2014’s StyleNOW Student Fashion Show, which is scheduled for June 14, 2014 at the SOMArts Center. The “N/A” students were a representation of the preview segment of the Exhibition.

Soon after Geetika introduced Fashion Design student Jesus Romero, who is part of the N/A collaboration. He was the second place winner for Cool vs. Cruel Contest 2013 sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States. The contest challenged students to improve runway looks with a concept that was animal-free.
Towards the ending of the Speech, Geetika introduced Rachel Richardson, an AICA-SF alumni and she works for a fashion tech company called Fashion for Globe. The company held a print design competition, and three fashion designers were awarded with runner ups and winner positions. Fashion Designer Anacelia Castro took first place, while fashion designers Mai Xiong and Josh Charles took the runner up positions.

Overall, the guests thought the event was fun and a success. The guest thought that the food, which was chocolates and apple cider, were delicious.

"Flash back" Fashion's Night Out'12

Fashion's Night Out was the most awaited event in the fashion industry around the world and many celebrities and influential people in the industry as well as shoppers were a part of this event. Fashion's Night Out was a time to shop your favorite designer, get styled by great stylists and network to people. Also Fashion's Night Out was not all about fashion but also for good cause. For every FNO shirt that was sold went to affiliated charities.

It was a night of glam and fashion, hosted by Saks Fifth Avenue SF. Invitations were sent to all the VIP's and socialites of San Francisco but everyone was welcome to attend this event. It was their time to shine for all the guests were dressed up in fashionable outfits and covered with gold jewels.

At Saks, guests were greeted by stylists and had the chance to try on hand-selected designer accessories that many only dreamed of owning. Stylized FNO mannequins showcased the top colors of the season, and mini-makeovers were provided by several of Saks’ exclusives beauty lines. The DJ was playing fashion rock, and light bites as well as a signature cocktail by Karlsson’s Vodka was on hand. Saks Fifth Avenue provided the guests with several special offers, including $10 off Uber Cab with the code SaksFNO and a gift certificate for a 50 in spa treatment with a purchase of $1000 or more. Plus, one lucky winner won a one night stay in a deluxe room with “couples” spa treatment at the Mandarin Oriental, San Francisco and a gin tasting at Brasserie S&P.

The Fashion's Night Out event at Sak's was covered by 7x7 magazine. (I am honored to have been featured in this event on their website) Check out the article on the 7x7 website. Here's to hoping that Fashion;s Night Out comes back soon!

Class Happenings: In-House Promotions

Class Happenings: In-House Promotions
February 6, 2014

Today in class Amy started off by drawing a timeline of how the rest of the quarter is going to look. Each chapter in the timeline is essentially an assignment for each week that we will combine towards the end to complete our final project. After the lecture, we presented our Fashion Night Out presentations that represented past FNO events all around the world. These presentations were helpful in choosing brands/retailers and locations for our own FNO event. Students made critiques that will help each FNO be better than previous years and make it successful.

Everything's Coming Up Radiant Orchid!

Radiant Orchid

Radiant Orchid by kimberley-casazza featuring paper wall art

As trends in color go, there is one company that reigns supreme - Pantone. Every year Pantone, the company which acts as the global color authority of professional color standards for multiple industries, selects a color they believe will be extremely prominent throughout all areas of design and art for that calendar year. They scour the world, looking far and wide, for color influences for their new shade. Some of the sources that they draw inspiration from are traveling art collections, the entertainment industry, popular travel destinations, hot new artists and socio-economic conditions. After they combed the Earth, Pantone decided that 2014’s Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid 18-3224.

“Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health” (Pantone.com).

Radiant Orchid can now be found everywhere on the streets in places such as fashion boutiques, home décor retailers or even in cosmetics. It’s also currently on display in the 3rd floor window of the fashion floor at the Art Institute of California - San Francisco. Radiant Orchid is submerged in a night time garden party in the city in the window display and includes Japanese inspired lanterns, candles and even a past Project Runway garment.

Everything's coming up Radiant Orchid! So whether you pop on a beautiful orchid top or your favorite shade of orchid lipstick, you'll be representing the hottest color of the year.
