The King of Cling Returns!

In his incomparable terms of course, Azzedine Alaia the Tunsian born couturier and shoe designer has a new flagship store in Paris. Alaia is credited for starting the body con movement during the 1980’s, known as “The King of Cling” by the media.  He opened a three story boutique, depicting the 18th Century mansion at 5 Rue de Marignan. The store has no window displays, the decor inside is futuristic of a science-fiction film.

The project included: Marc Newson who made circular light fixtures similar to UFO’s, Martin Szekley’s angular racks, brushed steel chandeliers and a four story marble staircase. The layout of the store is gallery like space with vintage designs, serpentine couches, and cathedral like tables. The main floor is dedicated to accessories, such as shoes, handbags, and small leather goods. His fashion is displayed on flat screens fixed to the wall. The next two upper floors feature Ready-to-wear, day wear on floor two and evening wear located on the third floor.  Accounting, administration, and financing is devoted to the fourth floor.
