The Student
Fashion Exhibition took place at The Art Institute of California- San Francisco
Gallery on February 20th, 2014. Academic Director of Fashion Geetika
Gupta and Fashion Show Production Instructor Michael Rosen hosted the event. The purpose of
the show was to view the designers who showcased their collections at the
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at New York earlier this month. The designers
included Lauren
Barisic who is majoring in Fine Arts as a Fashion Designer, Christopher Maracha and Rie Yamamoto (recent graduates majored in Bachelor of Fine Arts, Fashion Design).
When all of the guests (facility, writers, students, etc.) arrived and got settled down, Michael introduced the theme of “Emerging/Established/Eclectic”
and spoke about what he would be showcasing that evening. A few minutes later, the music changed and the
lights got dimmer because the Fashion Show Production and In-House Promotion
students invited the student designers into the venue and those designers formed a collaborative
group called “N/A.” “N/A” included Francisco Rodriguez, Tayler Melhart, Jesus
Romero, and Daniela Ramirez (all of the students are majoring in Fine Arts, Fashion Design.
Those students along with fourteen other Fashion Designers, will be a part of 2014’s
StyleNOW Student Fashion Show, which is scheduled for June 14, 2014 at the SOMArts Center. The “N/A” students were a representation of the preview segment of
the Exhibition.
Soon after Geetika introduced Fashion Design student Jesus Romero, who is part of the N/A collaboration. He was the second place winner for Cool vs. Cruel Contest 2013 sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States. The contest challenged students to improve runway looks with a concept that was animal-free.
Towards the ending of the Speech,
Geetika introduced Rachel Richardson, an AICA-SF alumni and she works for a
fashion tech company called Fashion for Globe. The company held a print design
competition, and three fashion designers were awarded with runner ups and winner positions. Fashion Designer Anacelia Castro took first place, while fashion designers Mai Xiong
and Josh Charles took the runner up positions.
Overall, the guests thought the event was
fun and a success. The guest thought that the food, which was chocolates and
apple cider, were delicious.
